Description

Principle of the Assay: The Mouse VEGFB ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit is an in vitro enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative measurement of Mouse VEGFB in Cell Culture Supernates, Serum, Plasma. This assay employs an antibody specific for Mouse VEGFB coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and VEGFB present in a sample is bound to the wells by the immobilized antibody. The wells are washed and biotinylated anti-Mouse VEGFB antibody is added. After washing away unbound biotinylated antibody, HRP-conjugated streptavidin is pipetted to the wells. The wells are again washed, a TMB substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of VEGFB bound. The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow, and the intensity of the color is measured at 450 nm.

Background: Vascular endothelial growth factor B also known as VEGF-B is a protein that, in humans, is encoded by the VEGF-B gene. VEGF-B is a growth factor that belongs to the vascular endothelial growth factor family, of which VEGF-A is the best-known member. In contrast to VEGF-A, VEGF-B plays a less pronounced role in the vascular system: Whereas VEGF-A is important for the formation of blood vessels, such as during development or in pathological conditions, VEGF-B seems to play a role only in the maintenance of newly formed blood vessels during pathological conditions. It also plays an important role on several types of neurons. And it is important for the protection of neurons in the retina and thecerebral cortex during stroke and of motoneurons during motor neuron diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
